How to use
Please see for details how to get started and configure this photomode mod, General features and configuration. This guide will provide additional information for the controls / features specific for this photomode mod.
If you don't see the crimsondesert.exe process in the Process to inject to textbox, please click the Select button to select it manually. This might be the case if you're running the game as Administrator,
and the IGCSClient.exe does not, it can't see the crimsondesert.exe process. In that case, restart the IGCSClient.exe as Administrator.
It's not needed to run the game as administrator.
Image Adjustments
The Image Adjustments tab is the tab where you can adjust some aspects that might influence the image.
Miscellaneous options
Be aware that by holding shift you can move the slider very slowly for finer control. Double clicking it will reset a slider back to its default position
- Game speed
- This controls how fast the engine runs internally; a value of 1.0 is 'normal game speed' and a value of 0.0 is total pause. Use this to create slow-motion effects which help you pause the game at the right moment.
- Higher foliage details
- This increases the detail of foliage and some rocks in the first 100-200m away from the camera. Don't expect this to fix the game's awful low details further away.
- Disable volumetric fog
- In some parts of the game world, a thick blurry fog is rendered which isn't controllable with the atmospheric options. As this is very blurry and will ruin your shots, you can disable it with this checkbox. Be aware that this setting will create artifacts at night and it will disable the latern light as well, so only use this when you want to remove the fog for some shot.
- Disable CA / Vignette
- This setting removes the ugly chromatic aberration and vignette that's still present even though the in-game menu's slider is set to 0.
Starting with v1.0.11, all Atmospheric features and time of day features have been moved to the in-game overlay (See below)
In-game overlay
Most features are only available in the in-game overlay because there were simply too many sliders/settings to control and the GUI of the client became pretty cluttered. To open the in-game overlay, in the game press Ctrl-Insert (if you bound another key for the in-game overlay, press that combination. See the keybindings in the IGCSClient). The in-game overlay consists of the Camera tab, Atmospherics tab and Time of Day tab.
As with all ImGui based user interfaces, holding Shift while dragging a value will make the value change with bigger steps, holding Alt will make the value change with smaller steps and double clicking or ctrl-click will allow you to type in a value yourself.
Camera tab
- Enable camera
- The camera tab allows you to enable/disable the camera if you prefer clicking things instead of pressing a key on the keyboard
- Field of View
- Changes the field of view (FoV) which means zooming in (narrowed FoV) and zooming out (wider FoV)
- Roll / Tilt
- Controls the roll / tilt of the camera. It also offers buttons to quickly roll / tilt 90 degrees.
- Save / restore camera state
- Allows you to save and restore the state of the camera (location, orientation and FoV). This is also doable by using the keyboard (Ctrl-F1-F2)
- Make character look at the camera
- This will make the character look at the camera (if enabled), if the game isn't paused. Moving the camera around will make the character keep following it.
Atmospherics tab
The Atmospherics tab contains the options to override any aspect of clouds, fog, weather and sun / moon sizes. There are multiple types of fog to control, and many cloud related settings. When you enable the Atmospheric options with the checkbox at the top, the tools will first read the current state of the settings and will set the sliders to those values, so you can tweak the current state directly. Some sliders work better in combination with others, so try them out and see what works for you best.
Rain / snow intensity don't work right away, so when the game is paused, changing these won't have any effect. Similar to when you want to have the precipitation stopped, the game has to be unpaused.
Time of Day tab
The time of day tab allows you to control the position of the sun and moon using various controls.
- Time of Day
- Controls the current world time in a 24 hour clock used for the sun/moon position. It won't change the internal game's clock. You can also change the time of day with the keyboard (see Keybindings) which might be easier than flipping back/forth to the client to get the right sun position.
- Sun / Moon positioning
- This will allow you to control where the sun/moon are placed in the sky, which basically overrules the time of day. It's still recommended to use Time of Day as well if you want to make it look like day time and it's currently at night; this way the sky colors will be set like when it's during the day so it will look more natural.
- Sun / Moon elevation / rotation
- This allows you to move the sun / moon up/down and rotate horizontally around the world so you can place these two elements in the sky. To create a solar eclipse, place the sun/moon at the exact same position and then control the sizes using the Atmospheric options.
Information recorded with camera path nodes
When you create a Camera path, each node records the camera location, orientation and field of view. Additionally to that for this game the camera node will also contain the current time of day. So if you want to have different time of day values per node, you can, just set the value you want in the client on the Environment Adjustments tab and create a camera path node.
Saving/restoring camera state
After you've enabled the camera (default with Insert), you can store the current camera state in three slots. The camera state is the current location,
the orientation/rotation of the camera and the FoV, as well as other information recorded in camera path nodes, as the system uses camera path nodes under the hood.
By default you save the camera state by using
Ctrl + F1 for saving the current camera state in slot 1, Ctrl + F2 for saving the current camera state in slot 2 and
Ctrl + F3 for saving the current camera state in slot 3. To restore the camera state to a saved state, press F1 to restore the camera to the state saved
in slot 1, press F2 to restore the camera to the state saved in slot 2 and, press F3 to restore the camera to the state saved
in slot 3. These keys are configurable in the keybindings tab.
When you disable the camera again, the saved states are lost. If you want to preserve game states after you disabled the camera (e.g. you want to move the character a bit, and then enable the camera again), use a camera path and add the camera states you want to save as nodes. Camera paths are preserved after you disable the camera.
Controls
The default photomode mod controls are listed below. It depends on the Camera control device setting on the Configuration tab whether the device (e.g. mouse or gamepad) can control the camera.
Mouse
When moving the mouse:
- No mouse buttons pressed: rotate the camera
- Left button pressed: move camera up / down / left / right
- Right button pressed: move camera forward / backward / left / right
- Both left and right button pressed: tilt camera left / right
- Mousewheel: increase / decrease Field of View (FoV)
